Powering Cleaner Shipping: MiNaMi & H2Marine at SSD2026

MiNaMi and H2Marine projects organized a breakout session entitled “PEM fuel cell applications in the maritime sector” during the Sustainable Shipping Days 2026, which was held in Lucerne on June 29–30, 2026. The aim of the breakout session was to explore the main findings of these projects, specifically addressing challenges in stack durability, maritime environmental factors, and the up-scaling of FC systems.

During the breakout session, Dr. Kyriakos Panopoulos (CERTH) presented the objectives, the vision and the main findings of the two projects, while Dr. Andreas Bodén (PowerCell Group) presented the recent findings on the development of PEMFC stacks for marine applications, and Dr. Jyrki Mikkola (VTT, Finland) outlined the latest achievements on advanced diagnostics and monitoring methods for PEMFC stacks and systems in maritime applications.

The breakout session gave the H2Marine and MiNaMi projects the opportunity to present their contribution to the goal of powering cleaner shipping.
